Mila’s Remission Photoshoot : Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Carrollton Texas Family Photography Mila Remission

Kelly and I have been friends for over 15 years, starting on the High School volleyball team, going to the University of Oklahoma together, being in each others weddings, and having baby girls 1 day a part.. I have been lucky to have such an amazing woman be such an integral part of my life for so many years. She is everything you would want in a best friend; kind, hilarious, smart, reliable, the type of person that when something terrible happens you can’t help but question, why them?!?

Around New Years last year I got the call that they had been in the hospital for 10 days with Mila and found out that she had leukemia. They have had a super tough year with treatments, chemo and watching their sweet girl battle this terrible cancer. When they got the news that she was in remission we celebrated with this photoshoot several months ago, even though they still had a long road of difficult treatment periods ahead.

With this month being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share these photos and a few things I have learned through their journey that I think people should know.

Did you know cancer claims more children’s lives then any other diseases combine?

Did you know that childhood cancers require a completely different treatment than adults with the same disease? Did you know that only 4% of funding goes toward research for pediatric cancer?

Please consider donating to Alex’s Lemonade Stand – A Foundation for Childhood Cancer, and support the research to find a cure for these sweet kiddos.
